There's no single price for a custom t-shirt, because a few things move the number. Once you understand them, it's easy to plan a budget and get more for it.
What changes the price
- Quantity: the single biggest factor. Setup and handling are spread across more shirts, so the per-unit price drops as the order grows.
- Garment: a basic tee costs less than a premium heavyweight; hoodies and golf shirts cost more than tees.
- Print method: screen printing is cheapest in bulk, DTF suits detailed designs, embroidery is a premium finish.
- Print positions: front only is cheaper than front and back, which is cheaper than front, back and sleeve.
- Colours: for screen printing, more colours means more setup.
As a rough guide, published South African price lists put a printed combed-cotton t-shirt at around R150 to R190 for a single front print, with more for back prints, premium garments and embroidery. Your exact price always depends on the factors above.
How price breaks work
The more you order, the less each shirt costs. That's why ordering 50 instead of 20 often costs only a little more in total but a lot less per shirt. We quote at clear price breaks (10, 25, 50, 100+) so you can see where it makes sense to round up.
How to get more for your budget
- Round up to the next price break if you're close.
- Keep the design to fewer colours for screen printing.
- Print one position instead of three if budget is tight.
- Choose a solid mid-weight blank rather than the premium option.
Every order is different, so we quote each one. Send us the product, quantity and your design and we'll come back within 24 hours.
